I joined the McKee lab at the BU CTE Center in July of 2022. Here, I assist with research projects aimed at understanding the mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases, am involved in human neuropathology studies, coordinate tissue requests, and assist with the daily operation of the brain bank.https://www.bu.edu/cte/profile/liz-spurlock/

Work with mentors from the University of Illinois and the local Veteran community to conduct a needs assessment as a part of a larger effort to develop a plan to successfully engage with Veterans on the topic of brain health.

Assist with research involving traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic epilepsy, MRI, MRE, and veterans

Evaluate relevant scientific articles, conduct data collection sessions, meet with individual participants, and prepare data for analysis.

Established business mission to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer research and animal welfare. Hand-painted and sold over 400 pairs of custom shoes, donating almost $10,000 of profit to charity. Donated over 100 pairs for partner foundation fundraising events and children battling cancer. Host auctions to raise money for partners as well as individual family medical expenses.

Observed mentor-led group and individual therapy sessions at a private psychiatric practice focused on dual diagnosis of addiction and other mental disorders. Ultimately led group and individual sessions.
