As a Publisher, I had accountability for the commercial success, strategic development and reputation of a portfolio of journals in the life sciences, under the BMC and Springer imprints. My main focus was to serve the needs of the research community by growing and developing a portfolio of high-quality journals.Key responsibilities included:• Maximising the efficiency and profitability of a large portfolio of journals across a wide range of disciplines within the life sciences.• Contributing to the overall strategy and development of the portfolio. • Providing trusted management and coaching to a global team of 10 people.• Providing support to external customers and partners, including Editors-in-Chief and society leadership. • Building and developing new business ventures, through identifying new and changing subject areas and acquiring society journals.• International travel to scientific conferences, meeting with leading experts and key stakeholders in the field.• Understanding and championing the needs of the life sciences research community, its Editors-in-Chief and sponsoring societies of journals within the portfolio.• Maintaining key relationships with senior management, marketing, sales, finance, production and web services teams. • Ensuring that the journals adhere to rigorous editorial and peer-review policies, in line with community standards.

- Working with a range of stakeholders across BioMed Central and Springer Nature, as well as externally, to drive and support the growth and development of our neuroscience journals. - Project Lead for our Transfers Working Group, spearheading efforts to streamline and maximise the utility of our manuscript transfer service for authors. - Line management of one Journal Development Editor (neuroscience) and two Editorial Assistants (transfers).- Core member of BioMed Central's Reproducibility Working Group, focused on enhancing the reproducibility and reliability of research published in our journals and beyond. - Working with all departments across the company, including marketing, production and editorial operations, to ensure our editors and authors get the best service possible.- Identifying new relationships and opportunities for journal, product and business development and innovation.- Representing the company at external events and conferences.
