Current DPT student at A.T. Still University of Health Sciences.Graduated from Sam Houston State University with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Clinical Exercise Science in May 2024. Throughout my time at SHSU, I have gained valuable knowledge to help me advance in my pursuit of becoming a successful and knowledgeable physical therapist. For example, the courses I have taken such as Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Motor Learning, and Therapeutic Interventions, along with 400 hours of clinical observation have allowed me to create a solid foundation for the start of my graduate DPT program.Physical Therapy has been my end goal for the past 10 years and it all started when I came to fully understand how physical therapy had impacted my family. Growing up, my oldest brother would receive physical therapy to help with managing his Cerebral Palsy. However, once we could no longer afford the physical therapy sessions, I was able to see how the lack of physical therapy was causing my brother to slowly lose some of the progress that he had made while receiving physical therapy. I could also see the toll that it had on my parents because as time went on it became difficult for them to support him while transporting him from the front door to the car or from the first floor to the second floor of the house. Seeing all this go on helped me decide the career that I wanted to pursue and it has served as the constant reminder of why I am pursuing physical therapy. It also serves as my reason to not give up during difficult times because I know that once I have reached this goal I will be able to help my family and help others. Knowing that I may have the ability to help others get better or simply help others get through the day is a feeling that I wish I could share with others for as long as I am able to.
