I received a doctorate in recognition of my programme of work entitled “Improving the identification and management of aspiration after stroke” and was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT). I’m a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Central Lancashire Stroke Research Unit and an honorary lecturer at post-graduate level on specialist and advanced dysphagia courses at four universities, as well as presenting at national conferences. I am co-author of “Swallowing Guidelines: Individualised Programmes of Care”, lead researcher and co-author of the Inter-professional Dysphagia Framework and have published manuscripts on dysphagia, oral care, and videofluoroscopy. I am co-founder and principal lecturer of the internationally-renowned Manchester Post Basic Dysphagia Course. I was Chair of the RCSLT International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) Expert Advisory Group and Co-Chair of the IDDSI External Reference Group.
