I represent Suffolk County Council in the Gainsborough Division which is a large division with many varied issues. It also takes in the Rivers Estate part of the Ipswich Borough Council's Holywells Ward which I represented for 22 years and was the Leader of the Council for over 6 years when I ran a Conservative / Liberal Democrat joint administration. A lot of that time was spent on the Unitary debate which sadly in the end went nowhere as an agreement between the local district councils could not be reached. With the economic crisis we are facing how much better this would have been! It was a great privilege to represent my town during that time both here and abroad when I was lucky to vist France, Italy and Azerbaijan the latter in an attempt to persuade this country to stay in Ipswich during the Olympic Games.I very much enjoy my role on the County Council and have a particular interest in green issues and the education of young people. I am also involved in several local charities.
