As Head of Training for Goodwork, Liz draws upon her 40 years as a broadcast and agency journalist and news manager to deliver a variety of training courses and programmes, amongst them Crisis Communications, Media Communications, Interviewing Techniques and Writing Skills, all of which reinforce professional and ethical best practice relevant to the charity and social enterprise sectors, as well as the public and private sectors. Brokered partnerships with media and educational organisations to promote funding of best practice journalism training in countries as diverse as Lebanon, Ukraine and Vietnam. Generated new business, establishing co-operative partnerships and shared objectives with the Middle East headquarters of the Carnegie Foundation for International Peace in Beirut, The Lebanon American University (LAU) and raising funding to deliver TRF courses. Gained new clients, such as 1+1 TV, Ukraine's largest state broadcaster, promoting an advanced journalism course for senior journalists and consultation sessions for news managers. Delivered a course in Hanoi for TV journalists from south east Asian countries and another in London for journalism students from Cairo's MIU university

A senior television news manager with global responsibility at Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading international news agency, in charge of controlling the quality of the content, style and standards of the world television news service which transmits footage 24/7 to more than 630 broadcast clients worldwide. Managed the global distribution and content of television news coverage to the highest standards, delivering and placing stories to make the greatest impact for the international news agenda. Maintained good communications with internationally dispersed teams of news gatherers and demonstrated an understanding of the diverse daily requirements of global broadcasters for their audiences. Worked with news teams in Reuters TV bureaux in America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa to promote high quality journalism and ethical standards within the TV discipline. Co-authored the Reuters Television Operational News Guidelines which is used globally as a best practice benchmark for both experienced and entry-level journalists. Co-author of the Thomson Reuters Foundations Journalism Handbook ”Making Video News”. Ran training programmes and group workshops for journalists with differing levels of experience and ability. Implemented a pioneering global workflow for an innovative internet file delivery service which changed the way Reuters TV delivered video to clients worldwide.

Worked in a variety of editorial roles for BBC World Service news bulletins, Newshour, The Day Today, World Bulletin Desk, specialising in foreign news coverage and international assignments, where robust editorial discipline, the highest journalistic standards and a deadline-driven culture were paramount.

Newsgathered and produced hourly round-the-clock news bulletins for all BFBS international locations in Germany, Brunei, Belize, Cyprus, the Middle East and Northern Ireland. Reported and compiled news programmes for BFBS1 and BFBS 2 radio.

Worked as a freelance News and Current Affairs programme producer on From Our Own Correspondent and Special Assignment, commissioning stories from correspondents for long format radio programmes and compiling and producing current affairs documentaries.

Worked as a producer on flagship BBC National Network News and Current Affairs programmes, studio directing and producing and setting up live and recorded coverage, as well as working with specialised BBC correspondents on location. Provided memorable interviewees which were picked up by international networks during a time of great upheaval from the Tiananmen Square massacre to the collapse of the Berlin Wall and subsequent democratisation of former eastern bloc countries.

Responsible for driving and delivering regional daily news coverage for an award winning BBC radio station and operating within a diverse catchment area and in one of the country’s busiest news regions. Produced and edited documentaries which were broadcast on BBC Radio Four.
