About Liz Henry

Release management for Firefox pulled together a lot of my skills and background in engineering, and I also rely on being able to rapidly absorb a lot of information, synthesize it, and make decisions. I've shipped dozens of Firefox desktop and mobile releases, including many security-driven releases, to hundreds of millions of users around the world, working with product, engineering, QA, release engineering, project manager, and security teams to coordinate and prioritize what needs to be done. I have been involved with F/LOSS since early days, and working in free/open source software based companies since 2003. I'm an experienced and entertaining public speaker and a good people manager who enjoys consensus-building and mentoring. My engineering background is in tech support, network administration, search engine/spidering back end, Perl programming, game dev, and back end Drupal development. I'm also a literary translator and a writer, with several published books out. Keeping my hand in many different projects means I come at problems from an unusual perspective. I enjoy connecting people from different geeky communities. Feminist action, antiracism, independent living, human rights, international/global thinking, and supporting the work of other women, and of people of color and people with disabilities, are very important to me.Specialties: Shipping great software. Creating checklists and processes. Fixing problems & doggedly following through. Pulling critical process and technical information out of engineers and helping them write it up for other teams. Idea generation, brainstorming, setting projects in motion. Working with devs without annoying the heck out of them. Understanding infosec contexts. Teaching people to use tech tools. Book editing. Organizing events. Analyzing subtextual meanings. I have a fairly large social network and like to bring people together or connect different communities.
