My interests in ancestral wisdom and history has taken me to experiences never imagined. I am currently attending Graduate School at York University, studying Canadian History, Mennonite History and Environmental History. After leaving a corporate career, I sought a better way of living that embodied a closer relationship with other beings, the land, and water. During this time, I also became interested in how ancestral stories passed down through generations shape us. That curiosity grew as I combined extensive motorcycle travel across North America and freelance writing. As my understanding of other landscapes, histories, people, and ways of being grew, my experiences in seeking deeper meaning through stories, spirituality, and the land led to the publication of my first book, Women, Motorcycles and the Road to Empowerment (2011). The common themes of self-discovery and empowerment that emerge continue to weave through my work. I leveraged my education and experience to design, produce, and share these findings through webinars, workshops, and work with individual clients. I also helped design and organize international women and motorcycling conferences, accessible to all. I undertook a multi-year quest in 2014 by motorcycle to understand how the stories of our ancestors and the land live in us. My travels took me to Alberta and coincidentally into meaningful contact with members of the Blackfoot Confederacy. Looking back, that quest, while tremendously insightful, necessary, and rewarding, served merely as an introduction. My memoir, Crash Landing (2018), described that journey of regeneration, reconnection, and reconciliation with the Mennonite culture into which I was born. In 2021 I recognized that the next logical step in the continuation of this vital work was through Graduate Studies. I completed my fourth undergraduate year at the University of Waterloo and began York’s Master of Interdisciplinary Studies in 2022, focusing on Canadian History, Mennonite Studies, and Gender, Feminist, and Women’s Studies. will begin PhD History studies at York in September 2024,
