Liz Rush is a Senior Software Engineering Manager at SoFi. Colleagues describe them as "To begin, reporting to a manager has not often been an enjoyable part of my past software experiences. It's often felt like being judged by someone who doesn't actually understand the technical details or quality of the code written. Liz has been the first manager that I've ever had take the time to understand and advise the technical details as well as the cultural aspects. She's straddled a lot of thorny, confusing cultural/ethical dilemmas (code related and org related), while remaining pragmatic and action oriented. She's provided a boost forward when I found myself hemming and hawing, paralyzed by options. She's slowed me down when I was taking us in a weird direction. Having said all that, it might seem like we haven't disagreed. Absolutely we have. And this is where she has a real superpower. First off, she doesn't start a conversation assuming she already knows everything she needs to know. Second, she always listens to input from me. Third, after listening carefully, she decides and points me in the right direction. Her taking on that role of the decider (even when I disagree) has taken enormous weight off my shoulders as a developer. Software can be challenging and having a coach rooting you on and jumping in to get you back on track has made my development process so much simpler. Working with Liz has expanded what I thought a boss could be and I'm extremely grateful to her for all of the ways in which she's taken care of me as an employee and person." and "Liz is an amazing boss.
