Preventive Medicine Enhancement for Maine (PrevME) program is funded by a five year HRSA grant and housed within the Division of Community and Preventive Medicine at Maine Medical Center. It works in concert with the Leadership in Preventive Medicine Fellowship Training program, and has physician and public health staff from many disciplines. PrevME’s goal is to improve outcomes for health and prevent chronic disease by integrating and bridging best practices of public health into clinical care at a systems level. The PrevME program serves as a learning laboratory for developing clinical and infrastructural change skills to address substance abuse, childhood obesity and other significant public health issues in rural Maine. In this role I structured the initial grant proposal into an actionable project plan with outcomes and timelines, wrote job descriptions, and served to help establish a leadership team, created tools for physicians to develop their own plans for systems change, and edited grant applications.

PelotonLabs is a coworking center that provides a supportive environment, community, and professional services to connect and encourage independent professionals and entrepreneurs. As co-founder I developed the initial outreach to members, designed the space interior, created business plans and marketing materials, and acted as general contractor to evolve the space to respond to the market for over almost a decade. In recent years I've begun conducting research on coworking as an economic development tool, looking at national models, interviewing rural coworking space operators in Maine, initiating research into remote workers statewide, and working on statewide policy to encourage remote work and coworking as an economic development strategy for rural Maine. As Maine Accelerates Growth (MxG) Coordinator, developed monthly online meeting format that grew membership from under 50 to over 300, expanded network, conducted stakeholder interviews, created workgroups to address ecosystem roles and gap analysis; all to strengthen the entrepreneurial network and culture of Maine. Also acted as coordinator of statewide coworking owner's group.

I worked with the Maine Center for Business and Economic Research to conduct an economic development study for the town of Bridgton, Maine. My role was to do in person interviews with 40 business and community leaders, helping to design a survey on economic development strategies taken by over 400 townspeople, and to write sections and edit the final report.

Our Katahdin is a volunteer driven nonprofit organization working to promote community and economic development in the Katahdin region. I helped this group get a grant to open a coworking space in 2016, and was hired in 2018 to help develop a business plan, recruit tenants, and facilitate a vision of how coworking at 230 Penobscot Street would contribute towards the local vision for a vibrant main street in Millinocket.

In this position I worked on a number of projects related to development of affordable housing, and developed and wrote a successful grant proposal for over $80,000 to pay for solar panels on affordable housing where the savings are used to pay for resident internet.

In this role I connected and strengthen the entrepreneurial support system in Portland. Projects included coordinating over 100 local entrepreneurship organizers to create a common entrepreneurship calendar at StartupPortland.com, organizing a team of 20+ volunteers to host four Startup Weekends, organizing House of Genius, and hosting Top Gun Prep meetups.

In this role I conducted initial research, outreach, stakeholder interviews, grant proposals, and organizational structures for the Cumberland County Community Development Block Grant program, the Cumberland District Health Council, the Cumberland County Tax Assessors' office, Public Health in Transportation (Phit), and the Road/Stream coalition. I wrote Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing for CDBG/HUD for County & City of Portland. Initiated and won a grant to research home sharing as an affordable housing strategy and partnered with Pine Tree Legal to create guidelines and interpret landlord-tenant law for would-be homesharers; convened a regional housing advisory council. While in this position, I wrote and edited successful federal and foundation grants in excess of $8M.

Consulting specializing in housing developments involving community elements. In this role I obtained contract zone for changes in density and parking requirements, helped design shared spaces and culture in an apartment building, and conducted public engagement with neighbors and small businesses to develop support for a real estate project.

Led trips throughout Maine with groups of 10-15 cyclists.

Co-authored study for the United Nations on the state of women in post-soviet countries and assisted with conducting focus groups.

The Lazy L& B is a guest ranch in a valley between the Wind River and Absaroka Mountains of Montana that takes up to 50 guests for one week at a time. I taught and led groups of 1-8 adults and children over challenging terrain for full days on horseback, helped to care for a herd of 85 horses.

Atalaya is a Search and Rescue team in Santa Fe previously known as St. John's College SAR. As a field team leader, I trained and led college students and adults into wilderness areas under all conditions, including helicopter drop-ins and technical evacuations. I also co-led the executive committee and legal advisors as Vice-President for one year.

Navigator Publishing owns multiple magazines, and until recently owned a 60 foot steel schooner that taught week-long celestial and coastal navigation courses. I worked as an editorial intern researching and writing articles and designed online visuals, Later, I sailed as crew for two summers and one winter and taught one course in celestial navigation, sailing from Bermuda to New York, along the Maine coast, to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, and crewed one trip from Florida to Cuba.

Sailed as first mate on 45 ft Sparkman Stevens design cruising yacht from Maine through the Canadian Maritimes to Ireland, Scotland, England, and France, a journey immortalized in the memoir "All for a Bottle of Whisky" "Für eine Flasche Whisky" by Ralph von Arnim
