Breakthrough Collaborative works with traditionally underrepresented students to achieve post-secondary success and empowers aspiring leaders to become the next generation of educators and advocates. As a Breakthrough NOLA teaching fellow, I wrote a detailed unit plan, created creative and engaging daily lesson plans, and taught two sections of 6th-grade science. Additionally, I taught a Nature and Environmental Science elective course for students from 6th to 9th grade.

Lived and served as a crew member on a 112ft schooner sailboat. Traveled 3,500 nautical miles, island hopping around the Caribbean Lesser Antilles and up to Bermuda. Completed college-level Marine Biology, Oceanography, Seamanship, and Leadership courses. Gained my PADI Divemaster certification, Emergency First Response Certification, and various International Yacht Training certifications.

Lived at Forfar Field Station located on Andros (the largest, yet least inhabited, island of The Bahamas). Took part in labs, research, and fieldwork. Attended lectures on marine biology and environmental science. Gained scuba diving experience and PADI Advanced Open Water certification.

I researched and compared various DV prevention curricula to help inform and guide the decision-making of various institutions when choosing a program. I wrote a 24-page paper listing each program’s successes and insufficiencies for hospitals and future publication.
