The Waterford Puzzle Company started in 1987 as ELMS Puzzles. Betsy Stuart (whose initials are E.L.M.S.) had a lifelong fascination with wooden jigsaw puzzles and began cutting her own puzzles, slowly building a business around it. After a courageous fight with ovarian cancer, Betsy passed away in 2007. Her husband, Fred, and artisans Lisa, Rose, Debby, Chris, and Kristin, continued the business and continued delighting avid puzzlers as a way to honor Betsy's legacy.In 2018, Fred retired at the age of 90 and passed the torch to puzzle cutter Debby's niece, Lizzy Bean, her husband, Spencer Bean, and their closest friend and business partner, Joseph Ogden. Like Betsy, Lizzy grew up with a family member cutting puzzles and wanted to keep the tradition alive. ELMS Puzzles continues on as The Waterford Puzzle Company, in honor of the nearby town in Maine, Waterford, where Debby has lived and Lizzy spent her childhood summers doing puzzles.Today, we're the same group of artisans hand-cutting the same beautiful puzzles. Our name may have changed, but our commitment to Betsy's vision and our love of puzzles will always be the same.

Stitch People is responsible for the popular, and growing cross-stitched family portrait movement that has begun to take the internet by storm!Stitch People was started in 2012 as a service-business, designing and hand-stitching customized cross-stitched family portraits. Eventually, images of Stitch People's completed portraits began to start cropping up around Pinterest with captions like "Totally want to figure out how to do this!" Thus, phase 2 of Stitch People began.In 2014, Stitch People self-published and released it's first book "Do-It-Yourself Stitch People." We've since sold over 20,000 copies of that book, and have expanded our pattern collections to include "Stitch People Farm Animals," "Stitch People Occupations and Hobbies," "Stitch People United States Armed Forces," "Stitch People Backgrounds," "Stitch People Weddings," and dozens of digital patterns available for purchase and download online including holiday patterns, sports patterns, and religious and cultural patterns. In 2018, after four years of incredible feedback, we re-worked "Do-It-Yourself Stitch People" and released the 2nd edition—nearly twice as long as the first!
