Managed a team of 5 information technology staff executing those plans.Multiple research departments needed a system to track and report the inventories, storage locations, and Matereial Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals in their possession but none were willing to commit sufficient funds to this effort. Since the laboratory faced potential sanctions from the sponsoring oversight agency, and because of my successes at fostering strong intra-organizational relationships, senior management asked me for help. By bringing the departments together to share individual needs and concerns, and showing them how the right technology could meet their individual needs, I convinced them to commit sufficient funds if a prototype with core common functionality could be demonstrated. In further negotiations, I convinced the largest department to provide the budget and resources needed to build the prototype. The prototype was accepted unanimously, and adopted by all departments. The success was applauded by management, and, because of its market potential, the final product was spun off as a separate business.Introduced and managed an electronic records management system which cut offsite storage costs by 90%.
