Navigation Protection Officer
CurrentAs a Navigation Protection Officer at Transport Canada, I am responsible for protecting navigation in Canada’s navigable waters by administering and enforcing the Canadian Navigable Waters Act and the Wrecked, Abandoned or Hazardous Vessels Act. My duties include:- Approving and setting terms and conditions for works in navigable waters that may interfere with navigation for commercial or recreational purposes, or for Indigenous peoples exercising their rights.- Managing obstructions in navigable waters that may pose a hazard or impede navigation, such as non-compliant works, wrecks, abandoned works, abandoned vessels.- Enforcing the regulations for private buoys.- Contracting marine operators for removal of works that are unlawful under the Canadian Navigable Waters Act. I have successfully completed the assessment of hundreds of works involving aquaculture facilities, marinas, hydroelectric dams, aerial crossings, bridges, among many others. I have also received my Small Vessel Operator Proficiency, Marine Emergency Duties certificate, and Radio Operator Certificate - Marine. I have demonstrated strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills in my daily work.
