Enjoyed a long customer facing career at IBM. Started in hardware debug and repair, moved to software support, dump trace analysis and complex problem determination. Became a Systems Engineer for mid-range systems. Moved into services and deployment of Imaging & Document Management systems in the latter 80's. Coupled this role with worldwide critical situations management and "fire stomping" for the Silicon Valley lab. Eventually moved back to sales as a technical sales resource becoming one of the first ECM Solution Architects when IBM created the role.

Evaluating customer business requirements around unstructured content into an appropriate set of ECM (Enterprise Content Management) technologies. Planning migration and integration strategies to realize the benefits of the desired solution, providing analytic capabilities to improve solution ROI.As a Senior Architect I led large, complex deals with an emphasis on scalability, performance and providing end user functionality. Notable accomplishments include:- Led Records Management project requiring the ability to manage records held in any repository via Microsoft SharePoint for a quasi-government banking organization. Convert RFP to Use Case model & design potential solution. Validate Use Cases with customer & reset expectations around unrealistic desires. Design and manage multiple Proof of Concepts, lead redesign when key technology was purchased by 3rd party and no longer available to be utilized in solution. Beat incumbent and secured multimillion dollar deal.- ECM Consolidation & Standardization Lead Architect on 26+ repository consolidation for major banking and credit card provider. Perform department interviews for inventory of each existing solution, including business needs, use cases, and future needs. Designed a two repository solution with records management capabilities. This technical sales role widen my perspective on customer business needs versus the deeper technical aspects of a solution. There was less emphasis on product and more on fulfilling the business needs of my customers. Here I engaged early with my sales rep peers to clarify the opportunity and understand whether IBM could properly meet our customers needs.Notable accomplishments include:- Joined with IBM’s healthcare executives and other internal professionals to beat competition and win a $23 million contract with a major laboratory testing corporation for an information management solution. Led the technical delivery evaluation that provided the fundamental basis for software and hardware price strategies, and convinced all stakeholders solution would perform as designed.- Engaged and led local IBM Account Team in a multi-year project which positioned IBM ECM products as a branded corporate standard solution and resulted in $20+ million in sales. Subsequently served as Project Manager during the implementation due to team resource constraints across this major banking & mortgage giant.

Assuming this role moved my focus from services (post-sales) to sales as an Information Technology Specialists for Enterprise Content Management solutions. Pairing with sales reps I became the technical sales arm, providing demonstrations, white boarding, gathering requirements to validate the solution would meet customer expectations.After the sale I would monitor implementations, working closely with customer technical and IBM support teams to resolve any issues that arose.Notable accomplishments include:- Led nine Proof of Technology educational training workshops to potential IBM customers in several cities & Puerto Rico. Promoted ECM solutions and technologies to audience members, set the stage for sales contracts ranging from $250,000 to $2 million.Publications: Using IBM Records Manager, SG24-7389, IBM Redbook 2007

The constant was that I always exceeded my utilization target when performing billable work and resolved critical situations acting as a field resource for the Silicon Valley Lab.
