About Lilian Josephson

Hi, I’m Lilian (she/her/hers). I am a product developer and innovator, rheologist, chemical engineer, and photographer. I love solving problems, making art, and thinking deeply. Currently I help make the world brighter, safer, and healthier by passing on my expertise and overseeing 30+ student chemical and biomolecular product design projects at Johns Hopkins. The student leaders and teams are trained in user-centered design, from identifying needs and validating solutions, to developing a winning business case. To continue my passion and impact in the CPG world, I also lead the SkinSAFE Trusted Choice program. I believe in transparency in the chemical product world, where I can help educate consumers, eliminate the guesswork of product labels, and allows users to focus on products that are truly safer for them. This is work that matters to me.I had been the technical lead in the hygiene/hand care anchor team, as well as the resident rheologist in the Rheology Platform at Ecolab. My key accomplishments include driving the development of a new generation of antibacterial hand soaps, developing new clinical studies in all aspects, and consulting on technical rheology challenges that other R&D teams face. I co-led our Networking With Intent initiative (an employee resource group) after volunteering as a group leader for 2 years. I have also been involved in my greater scientific community, leading as co-chair in three conferences of Engineering Cosmetics and Consumer Products, and serving in AIChE Young Professionals Committee and Twins Cities Chapter of Society of Cosmetic Chemists.I have 7+ years’ experience working closely with CPG industry scientists and engineers. My key achievements include pioneering the development of 2 R&D instruments to increase efficiency. I have been granted 4 patents, presented my research findings at 20+ local, national and international scientific conferences, and garnered multiple awards as a presenter, including a "Best of BIOT" award at ACS National Meeting. I have managed multiple research projects and co-chaired 3 cosmetics topical conferences (~100 attendees).I love to chat with like-minded professionals. Connect with me via LinkedIn. Let’s chat!"Use your natural powers―of persistence, concentration, and insight―to do work you love and work that matters. Solve problems, make art, think deeply." ― Susan Cain
