"Over thirty years of bringing order to chaos..." might be one way to describe my working life as a construction superintendent. Without proper planning and oversight, chaos will prevail on a construction site, so it's always been my goal to foster an organized, communicating, team-based site environment where all stakeholders can realize a successful project. This approach has proved successful for me again and again on a variety of projects throughout the world, from China to Africa to South America to the Middle East to here at home in North America. Projects have ranged from Water and Wastewater to Healthcare to Education to Churches to Municipal, Military and even Retail. While the projects have varied tremendously, the one thing that never changes is the need to establish and maintain relationships with all involved in the project, from the top echelons of the Owner's team, to the field employees of the subcontractors working on site. All can provide useful insights that go toward making for a better and more successful project, and we're well-advised to ensure that all are heard.The thought that "no man is an island" applies particularly to the construction industry. Without the team, without the relationships, without the careful planning and organization, the project will always be a struggle. It's therefore always my goal to establish the relationships, build the team, and provide the leadership that will result in a successful project.
