In this role I oversaw the Private Office function of the Deputy National Statistician for Data Capability at the Office for National Statistics, as well as covered the data capability brief for the National Statistician, working as part of an overarching private office supporting the senior leadership team. This brief covers IT, data science, HR and procurement, methodology and research, security, and data governance and legislation. This was a key role in driving the data agenda within the organisation, across Government and externally to private industry and the international community.

My work covered an extremely broad responsibilities, including the Chief-of-Staff’s leadership of the Central Policy Secretariat and the Communications Division. I used my insight across this broad remit, effective communication skills and planning skills to achieve the goals of the Chief-of-Staff, the Chair of the Authority and the organisation.

I pursued an opportunity to work in a political office coming up to an election campaign and, subsequently, during the formation of government and the Member’s appointment as Victoria’s first Parliamentary Secretary for Medical Research. In this role I became his chief researcher and internal advisor for political, operational and medical research matters. I led on policy initiatives, strategy and office operations. Key Responsibilities• Policy development of a local and state-wide scope as well as under the medical research portfolio. Primary researcher for the office with the role of applying the findings to a range of purposes including to policy approaches.• Primary advisory role to Parliamentary Secretary for Medical Research in his Parliamentary and medical research duties. This involved the analysis of relevant departmental documents, managing research projects, preparing briefings and speaking notes on relevant bills before Parliament. • Liaising with key internal and external stakeholders in medical research and innovation. This included major government departments, ministerial offices, medical research institutes, universities and private companies.• Management of the Electorate Office team and coordinating office operations. Developing office budgets, managing the Member’s digital media presence, managing the diary/emails of the MP.
