A one-act street opera for mezzo-soprano, baritone, saxophone, piano and percussion based on the book OSCAR OF BETWEEN by Betsy Warland.The premiere (originally planned for June 2020 but delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic) will finally be staged on June 11th, 2022 at noon sharp in the Vancouver Public Library 8F atrium.

A two-act chamber opera based on the Nando Parrado book MIRACLE IN THE ANDES.After adapting the libretto from Nando Parrado’s book, which has become a legend for the people of South America, Burritt chose Nando, with his best friend Roberto, his mother Eugenia and his sister Susy as principals for the opera. Act One follows the horrific events that occur in the plane’s remaining piece of fuselage. Act Two depicts the death-defying trials of Nando's and Roberto’s long trek through the Andes to home. The music is rich and full of harmony, dissonance and rhythmic drive capturing Nando’s and Roberto’s determination to survive the unforgiving harshness of their surroundings.#miracleflight571

A lyrical full-scale opera in two acts based on the Timothy Findley novel PILGRIM. 'The Dream Healer' (2008), an opera in two acts, for UBC Centenary featuring Judith Forst, Simone Osborne, John Avey, Roelof Oostwoud and UBC Opera Ensemble, directed by Nancy Hermiston and conducted by David Agler. Set in the Burghölzli Psychiatric Clinic, Zürich, the story is propelled by Dr. Carl Jung’s dream of Pilgrim. Pilgrim has lived throughout the ages and is tired of living, seeking repeatedly and unsuccessfully to end his life. The dream patient, Pilgrim, and his companion, Lady Sybil, become so real and pervasive that they disrupt Jung’s relationships with his wife and family and with his colleagues and patients. Lady Sybil asks Jung about disintegration as a symptom of schizophrenia and whether reintegration of the fragments is possible.Replies Jung, "Sometimes we have to accept that things break into pieces.""And then?" she asks.'"And then"' becomes a journey to integrate the real with the unreal, the supposed with the unimaginable, so that new understandings of the human condition are possible.
