My role as Drilling Analyst at Sekal enables use NORCE developed, industry leading modelling software, to bring in-depth interpretation of real-time drilling scenarios. Using a trio of Sekal developed software applications, I work to identify problem operational scenarios by plotting RT (WITSML) data against a transient 'digital twin' of the wellbore. By establishing deviations in expected trends I am able to alert and advise operations teams on mitigations and prevent wellbore deterioration. Use of Sekal's DrillExpect software combines advance mechanical, hydraulic and thermo-dynamic models developed by leading scientists to enable accurate modelling of 'expected' wellbore conditions. DrillExpect means I am able to provide Engineering solutions and pre-well/real-time simulations to clients, to assist with planning and delivering wells.Use of DrillTronics, Sekal's flagship automation software allows us to interface with the Driller's control system, and combine our complex models with real-time DCS data, at the rig site. In doing so, we can deliver limits instantly to the Drillers joystick, ensuring we are always operating to safe, accurately calculated limits. This ensures wells are drilled within safe operating windows, avoiding costly mistakes whilst reducing operating cost, preventing side-tracks, and in turn driving down CO2 footprints.Working in a front line, client facing capacity provides unmatched insight into well operations, from pre-planning through completions. Providing clients with engineering solutions, and delivering these succinctly and clearly form part of my day - day work scope. As an ADT engineer I primarily assembled complex 'cases' utilising Halliburton's Decision Space WellPlan software. These accurately calibrated models enabled me to source real-time data to plot against trends and promptly establish deviations, and subsequent areas of concern. By closely monitoring drag, torque, pressure and ECD trends, I was able to clearly communicate remedial actions to be taken in the event of poor hole cleaning, lack of drillstring or wellbore integrity. Downhole tool data sourced from MWD accelerometers enabled me to analyse vibratory mechanisms in X, Y and Z planes. Careful evaluation of these lateral, torsional or axial shocks enabled me to infer the type of vibration, and make damage limiting recommendations to the client.By collating our findings post run, I was able to assemble valuable post run reviews, and 'drillers roadmaps', making recommendations for future sections. Recommendations made to clients during drilling helped to improve KPIs. Examples include; Unnecessary time spent backbreaking in the absence of increased drag, inconsistent PU/SO procedures/ irratic WOB resulting in cyclical fatigue to motors and differntial pressure spikes, allowing weight to drill off at stand down resulting in loss of lateral stability at the bit and subsequent whirl in overgauged hole, rapid pump increase following connections risking formation surge, incorrect stringer drilling practises.
