During my internship at AI Golf Ug I had the opportunity to write my master thesis: “A Holistic Framework for Analyzing the Reliability of IoT Devices”.I dealt with challenges related to harsh environments where IoT devices are usually deployed, especially when attempting to communicate through the Internet.By proposing hardware and developing software mainly using c++, I was able to overcome some of the challenges the company’s prototype was facing.In particular I worked with AT commands to interface the cellular modem deployed in the IoT device with the device itself.I mainly explored the newer LTE technologies, especially LTE-M and LTE Cat-1 and benchmarked their performances with QoS metrics and measured their power consumption.I later deployed these metrics using the framework proposed in my master thesis to calculate reliability and availability of the IoT device itself.Additionally, I utilised the I2C protocol to communicate with a Texas Instrument monitoring controller of a battery prototype. By monitoring the battery metrics, I created a class and by running a thread on one of the cores of the microcontroller I cyclicly and efficiently gathered data which was later sent to an MQTT broker.
