About Laura Mayer, Msw, Licsw, Sac
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, Certified CANS Practitioner, and a Certified School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor in the state of Massachusetts. My clinical skills have been honed in two inpatient psychiatric rotations. At Boston's Children’s Hospital, I incorporated therapeutic interventions with children and families to help them remain successful in their communities. At Beverly Hospital, I was immersed in the culture of an adult inpatient unit for the chronically mentally ill, dually-diagnosed, and addicted populations. I engaged patients in Solution Focused Therapy and facilitated family meetings. While managing child protective cases with the Department of Children and Families (DCF), I learned of the impact that domestic violence, drug and alcohol addiction, untreated mental illness, abuse, and neglect can have on children and families. I was able to utilize my positive outlook and culturally sensitive, strengths-based approach to to motivate families toward creating positive change and achieving success and wellness. I also have experience with legal systems through a variety of positions held throughout my career. I am knowledgeable of child custodial, CRA and delinquency hearings, and help families to understand the impact of these services on their child and in their family. I have maintained strong clinical ability while evaluating children and adults throughout the Merrimack Valley in my role as an Emergency Psychiatric Services Clinician. Currently, I provide counseling and support to high school-aged youth in school-based community health, in the north shore. I have varied experience and knowledge in multiple areas of social work, including child protection, the Massachusetts legal system, and inpatient psychiatric social work with children and adult populations.
Listed skills include Social Services, Crisis Intervention, Mental Health, Group Therapy, and 30 others.
