Head It Platforms And Infrastructures Engineering
He managed the IT Engineering unit in ENAV, leading digital transformation and change of IT and Air Traffic Control platforms, bringing Innovation into key IT processes and systems. He lead National and International programs with particular emphasis on the future generation of Cloud Data Centers. The IT Platforms unit manages platforms and infrastructures, focusing on virtualization, cloud and service orientation for Legacy and next-generation systems. He mastered the inception, design and implementation of the ENAV “National Test Facility” (NTF). The NTF is composed of a cluster of Cloud Data Centers (SDDC) as well as a set of integration, testing and pre-operational SW facilities supporting all engineering life-cycle phases. NTF supports a set of ENAV programs, involving operational, research and technical departments in applied Research (e.g. SESAR), Training/Certification, Integration, V&V and pre-operational activities. NTF was engineered in collaboration of the biggest players in the IT market (IBM, Lenovo, HPE, Redhat, VMware, Citrix, Rubrik, Datacore, Oracle, Veeam) and acts as IaaS, PaaS and supporting initial phases of the “ATC-as-a-service” model. NTF is used as a distributed, secured platform for remote integration, interconnecting local or international remote engineering teams, providing Cloud based services for the ENAV participated industry.Bridging the gap towards operations, he led the ENAV “journey-to-cloud” certification path, porting for the first time ATC operations into Cloud Data Centers. The project is managed in collaboration with VMware (in collaboration with the Palo Alto laboratories, customer success and technical teams).
Head Of Experimental Center
He led the ENAV Experimental Center, to bring innovation and IT technologies to the next-generation of simulation platforms. Along the lead of the Experimental center, with a special focus on SESAR 1 activities, he managed the successful implementation of more than 40 simulation exercises (among the operational concepts targeted we can cite AMAN/DMAN, ASAS, i4D trajectory, Data link, IOP, Free route and Virtual Center). An optimization of technologies and teams together with a rationalization of processes led to a noteworthy improvement rate of success (including a significant optimization of the associated budget). From a starting range of one validation exercise per year, ENAV moved to an average to 4-6 simulation exercises per year. He led the SESAR 2020 W1 “Validation and demonstration engineering – Seabird” providing a system engineering data management framework (SE-DMF) to support the coherent development and delivery of all SESAR SW solutions. SE-DMF platform currently supports more than one thousand European users and manages the entire repository of operational requirements (more than five hundred thousand engineering artefacts). In SESAR 1 (Single European Sky ATM Research), he was the Project Coordinator and Technical Lead of the SESAR 1 “WP3 - Validation Infrastructure Adaptation and Integration” that, with a budget of 60M€ and spanning four year of activities, aimed to integrate all the European ATM V&V platforms.
