I am a senior researcher at the Climate Service Center Germany, focusing on three topics: Assessment of climate change impacts on extreme weather, specifically flooding; modelling of impacts and damages; and applications of novel techniques such as Machine Learning. I have lead several (inter)national research and consultancy projects, and I have (co-)authored many papers (>70 ISI listed) in the academic literature on these topics, including 5 papers in Nature Climate Change and one paper in Science magazine.I have contributed to the IPCC Third and Fifth Assessment Reports, and to the Special Reports on Extremes (SREX) and Oceans and Cryosphere (SROCC). Countries of work include India, Vietnam, USA, Turkey, Algeria, USA, Afghanistan, Turkey, Germany, Netherlands. For the EU I have been involved in several research projects, including RESPONSES, CONHAZ, ENHANCE, BASE, GREEN-WIN, IMPREX, EUCP, COACCH, IDAlert, and SUNRISE.
