At Investors Group, I was able to start in a department as it was getting up and running. This was an exciting opportunity as I was involved with setting up test scenarios for a new system before implementation, drafting procedures and participating in ensuring that we had workable solutions to any deficiencies that could not be addressed by implementation. Working at Laurel Hill allowed me to further develop my knowledge of the proxy system in Canada. It gave me a good understanding of shareholder activism and how to track votes through various institutions to ensure they were voted correctly. During my time at Laurel Hill, I was able to provide strategic planning to clients in order to get their shareholder base more involved with the proxy process. Ever hear the expression "One Stop Shop"? This was Valiant Trust for me. As a Manager, Client Services, I had exposure to not only the stock transfer side of the transfer agent business but the Corporate Trust side as well. This was a great learning experience as I was reviewing documents and processing items for both sides of the business. On any given day, I could be tabulating proxies, processing warrant exercises and treasury directions, reviewing warrant indentures, preparing and attending closings, reviewing information circulars and depositary agreements or reviewing escrow agreements. Through all of these transactions, I was able to develop extraordinary multi-tasking abilities and an ability to thrive in a challenging environment. During my tenure at Computershare, I held a few different positions in various departments throughout the business. These positions allowed me to learn the transfer agency business from the ground up. I started with learning an overview of how the business worked in order to answer shareholder inquiries, then moved into client facing departments to build on that knowledge. By working in Client Services, I was able to gain a thorough understanding of shareholder meetings, proxy tabulation, balancing capital, and processing treasury directions. With this knowledge, I then moved into the client servicing side of Corporate Actions where I gained an in depth mastery of the different Corporate Actions, the documents involved with those transactions and how to process these items to ensure shareholders were receiving their correct entitlements.
