About Prof. L. Monika Moskal

I use remote sensing and GIS to take as close a look as possible at spatial and temporal large-scale landscape change. For example exploring seasonal and long term wetland and forest dynamics and tying these changes to climate and socio-economic data. As Director of the Precision Forestry Cooperative, I am broadly interested in how urban, managed and 'natural' forests are structured, how that structure can change, whether through fire or other disturbances, and how we in turn can detect those changes. She and her students then look for indicators that will help guide sustainable forestry management and policy. I work throughout the western U.S. and Canada, and receive substantial funding from the NSF, as well as NASA.
