Profile bio

About Lindsay Allen, Ms

I believe that every person has a vision of what they want to be (or do) when they get older, and that their dreams are attainable with the right supports. This belief is what led me on my first endeavor in graduate school, where I obtained a Master's Degree in Counseling in 2010. After receiving my degree, I became certified as a vocational rehabilitation counselor, serving youth and adults with disabilities in helping them develop the necessary skills to be successful in the world of work. While working as a vocational counselor, I had the opportunity to partner with over 15 school districts to serve students in the areas of personal/professional growth, academic supports, and career development. It was through these engaging partnerships that I found I truly loved working with all students in the educational setting and made the career shift in that direction. The school counseling field was the perfect fit, and I returned to graduate school at Drake to obtain my K-12 endorsement in school counseling in 2016.My current position as a High School Counselor has allowed me to follow my dream path of working with students to help them engage in self-exploration activities, create personal growth, and explore their future career opportunities. From arranging job shadows to presenting at financial aid meetings and scholarship nights, or just sitting down one-on-one with students to talk about their day, I am proud to meet the academic, personal/social, and career needs of each student that I work with. Specialties: Career Counseling, Job Search Strategies, Community Outreach, Training, Motivational Interviewing, Academic Success Strategies, Collaboration, Advocacy, Curriculum Development, Disability Services/Accommodations,

Listed skills include Job Search Strategies, Career Counseling, Training, Community Outreach, and 19 others.
