Synthetic Organic Chemist specializing in the use of Medicinal Chemistry design strategies to optimize the potency and ADME properties of our novel small-molecule therapeutics for clinical development. Our team at Fimbrion currently has a first-in-class, orally-bioavailable, small-molecule in Phase 1 clinical trials for treating urinary tract infections. Using an anti-adhesive approach, we have targeted a virulence factor on uropathogenic E.coli, disrupting the infection cycle. This has proven to be an exciting and effective alternative to traditional antibiotics, and will help to combat the growing problem of antibiotic resistance. Partnering with GSK to bring this technology to clinic, I worked closely with their medicinal chemistry team and helped to lead the organic chemistry efforts (from design to synthesis to scale-up route optimization) which culminated in the discovery of our clinical candidate.Instrument Experience: NMR (1H, 13C, 19F, COSY, HMBC, HSQC); MALDI-TOF, FAB, UV/VIS, IR, Optical Rotation, LCMS, HPLC,Software Programs: ChemDraw, SciFinder Scholar, ACD lab, Microsoft Office, End Note, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator
