Management of invasive plant species and mosquito populations throughout the Sunshine Coast region. I'm actively working with private landowners and government agencies throughout the Sunshine Coast to achieve positive environmental outcomes, through integrated pest plant management. Natural Areas Officer
Maintenance of Sunshine Coast Council's natural area estate including inspection of infrastructure, hazard mitigation, prescribed ecological burns, invasive weed management, ecological restoration projects and vegetation management.

A major part of this work involved the collection of scientific data, used to determine the overall effectiveness of bird by-catch mitigation techniques, being trialled throughout the Eastern Tuna and Billfish Fishery, including the use of streamer lines, line weighting and deployment of baits by night. Whilst the projects aimed at limiting the number of birds being drowned by longlines, particularly Albatross species, it was also my duty to observe and report on the safety of the program and convenience to fishers, as well as determining any effects that the project may place upon the overall productivity of the vessel. Extensive bird identification skills were mandatory for this position along with the skills to identify marine mammal, reptile and fish species. Show less
