The Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association (HTBA) Irish National Stud Scholarship gave me the opportunity to travel and reside in Ireland for 6 months while I furthered my knowledge in Thoroughbred breeding and management. Here, we had nightly lectures from industry professionals, Veterinarians, Auctioneers, Farriers Etc. That deepened my knowledge and love for the game.

Whilst completing my Bachelor’s degree at University, I worked as a stable hand at Chris Waller’s yard on the Gold Coast. This was a great introduction to the general duties of saddling, swimming and not to mention being exposed toone of the world’s best training programmes. During this time, we had the likes of Kukeracha, Humidor, Shared ambition, and Shaquero in the stable.Working with Chris Waller gave me the opportunity to work along side his bloodstock agent, Guy Mulcaster. I was fortunate to attend both Inglis and Magic Millions sales as well as on farm yearling inspections through the Hunter Valley. Guy was invaluable in developing my education with regard to pedigrees and conformation. I was able to shadow Guy and learn exactly what he looks for when buying yearlings for clients. This allowed me to better understand the industry and what it takes to attract the big buyers and gain acompetitive advantage over others. Show less
