As a garden intern, I rotated through the fruit team, vegetable team, and nursery. I worked with a pomologist with decades of experience to graft and prune fruit trees as well as maintain stone fruit arborsculptures in unique shapes. In the vegetable team I planted and maintained vegetable plots as well as show gardens that included handmade structures for various climbing plants. In the nursery I assisted with special collections maintenance and watering which allowed me to familiarize myself with South African indigenous succulents. I focused on a greenhouse project planting and training cucumbers on ropes for a beautiful backdrop to a greenhouse restaurant.

Engaged with clients in order to design the most compatible landscape plan for the needs and wants of the homeowner. Using a wide variety of tress, shrubs, and perennials, I would create a unique fully rendered landscape plan.

Assisted customers throughout the nursery and retail center. Using my plant knowledge, I gave specific recommendations of plants that would thrive in the customer’s landscape. The inventory was large and consistently changing throughout the seasons.

As a garden intern, I gained valuable experience in maintaining a diverse landscape of perennials, trees, and shrubs. We had the opportunity to create many garden beds while using a ditch witch to add and move soil to new spots before assisting with planting design. I collected plants for propagation using stem cuttings and divisions to grow plants for plant sales and the arboretum plant cart. Working in the nursery in the various greenhouses was a very good experience that taught me how to stay organized which involved labeling and recording every plant.
