About Logan Bamonte
Hello! I’m Logan Bamonte, a junior at the College of Charleston Honors College, pursuing a B.S. in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Education.I plan to attend medical school and specialize in family medicine and obstetrics. I am passionate about women’s health advocacy and committed to empowering women and their families through comprehensive, equitable primary care. I aspire to meaningfully impact maternal and child health by supporting families through every stage of their lives. The Honors College's interdisciplinary curriculum has allowed me to study the history of obstetrics and gynecology, particularly in the southern United States. This exploration has deepened my understanding of the need for improved access and equity in women’s healthcare. I am committed to addressing healthcare disparities through clinical care and community advocacy. Outside the classroom, I volunteer at Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital in the Child Life Atrium and conduct undergraduate cancer research with the Hobbs Lab at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. I also volunteer with the FitCatZ aquatic and motor therapy program through the College of Charleston School of Education, combining my passion for health education and patient-centered care.

Research Assistant
Current
Laboratory Technician
CurrentHobbs Lab at MUSC Hollings Cancer CenterThe Hobbs Lab studies cell signaling and metabolism in several cancer model systems, with a primary focus on developing new therapeutic vulnerabilities that target pancreatic cancer. I perform various tasks to assist in research including PCR, plasmid DNA isolation, cell line maintenance, and experimental protocols as assigned. Additional responsibilities include general lab maintenance, buffer preparation, and ordering lab supplies.
Summer Undergraduate Research Assistant
I was a full-time trainee in the Hobbs Lab for a 10-week summer undergraduate research program (SURP) run by the College of Graduate Studies on the Medical University of South Carolina campus. My summer project was titled, "Receptor tyrosine kinase-mediated RAS signaling uncovers mutant selective KRASG12R reliance on EGFR"Abstract:KRAS is mutated in ~30% of all human cancers, with nearly 100% of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) cases containing KRAS mutations. These mutations disrupt typical RAS regulation, leading to constitutive activation of signaling pathways implicated in tumorigenesis. However, data suggest its function may differ in PDAC compared to other KRAS-mutant cancers. Notably, KRASG12R, which lacks binding affinity to PI3Kα, is prevalent in PDAC but rare in other cancers, suggesting differential signaling. Given their role in RAS activation, we identified epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF1R) as potential therapeutic targets. Single-agent EGFR inhibition has been unsuccessful clinically, emphasizing the need for a deeper understanding of RTK interaction in KRAS-mutant cancers. Using Ras-less mouse embryonic fibroblast (MEF) and PDAC cell lines, with pan-RAS inhibitor, RMC-7977, growth factor stimulation experiments revealed differential reliance on EGFR activity in KRASG12R versus KRASG12D PDAC, suggesting alternative pathways in tumorigenesis.
