About Logan Jensen
I hold a PhD in Exploration Systems Design from Arizona State University, where I focused on the assembly, integration, and testing (AIT) of the Star-Planet Activity Research CubeSat (SPARCS). My contributions included developing a custom thermal vacuum chamber for UV-sensitive CubeSats, leading the contamination control effort to mitigate contamination impacts on the FUV sensitive SPARCS payload, and heading the assembly, integration, and testing campaign for the SPARCS payload. My expertise includes vacuum systems design, construction, and operation, with specialized training in cleanroom operations, spacecraft handling, and contamination monitoring. SPARCS’s ultraviolet-sensitive instrumentation required stringent contamination control measures, giving me significant experience with tools such as thermal quartz crystal microbalances (TQCM), residual gas analyzers (RGA), digital particle counters, and techniques for measuring particulate and non-volatile residue contamination.I also bring a strong background in optical design and engineering, having designed, aligned, and operated relay and collimating optics to test the optical performance of space telescopes. My experience includes work in Zemax/OpticStudio, were I also designed the payload spectrograph optics for the EXoplanet Climate Infrared Telescope (EXCITE) balloon mission. My research and professional experience have focused on advancing systems for contamination-sensitive astrophysics missions, blending hands-on technical expertise with systems engineering to deliver high-impact results in space exploration. I have managed teams, timelines, and requirement documents and developed materials for NASA mission milestone reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.). I look forward to future opportunities in industry and/or federal missions to continue addressing the challenges of space exploration and working with teams to develop innovative new missions and facilities to advance space-based instrumentation.
