Our journey began in 1983 in Cincinnati, OH with just 10 employees. My mom with her entrepreneurial spirit opened Mitchell’s for Hair, Skin & Nails when I wasn’t even an idea yet. She was a businesswoman first who was determined to bring a world of luxuriously inviting beauty to Cincinnati. I was born when the salon was just three years old. I grew up within our walls, and as an only child, Mitchell’s was the sibling I never had. As I grew up, I dabbled in different roles within our walls, but my mom required me to spread my wings and work elsewhere to gain the experience, but also make sure this truly was where I wanted to be. I attended the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, and later Xavier University for my MBA. I moved to New York City to work for Vera Wang in their buying department. I then moved back to Cincinnati and worked with a project management agency working with Procter & Gamble beauty brands and later re-locating to Philadelphia to help form their Tylenol team for McNeil Consumer Healthcare. It was while living & working in Philadelphia that I called my mom to begin the discussions of me coming home to Mitchell’s & Pump – it’s where my soul was meant to be. As I returned, it was important to me to earn the trust & respect of our employees. I was proud to be the owner’s daughter; however, I also wanted to earn my office so to speak. I began my career in our Marketing department as that was my major. I had officially been with the company ten years when I became our owner. I became owner May 16th 2021 which was the day my mom lost her battle with bone cancer. I had a 3 month old, a two year old & a 4 year old at that time and overnight became responsible for 5 business locations and around 300 employees. I have always been embarrassed by my big feet, but when my mom lost her battle I knew then why I have them, because I had some very big shoes to fill. It was a responsibility I was honored to have, but also felt the weight of. As with anything in my life, I do believe life happens when it’s supposed to happen and the pieces seem to all make sense, even the pieces that you’ll never understand have their purpose.I believe I am the leader I am today because I don’t have my safety net. My mom will always be a part of our soul as a company; we are charting a course for our future that stays true to our values – and my mom’s legacy – while evolving with a thoughtful & careful vision.
