Field Reliability Data Engineer

Los Angeles, California, Us

After focusing mainly on battery manufacturing and design, I transitioned to a role that allowed me to gain experience with the entire vehicle system. As a field reliability data engineer, my main goal was to gain insights into specific subsystems in order to assist design, software, and service teams. I developed custom python tools and dashboards using Pandas and Plotly to help the entire team have access to data concerning mileage, energy usage, HV system health, faults, and OTA updates. I was able to pull telematics data through two stand alone APIs and create custom reports detailing common fleet issues or specific customer statistics. When not creating new dashboards and reports, I assisted with remote troubleshooting of vehicles by correlating common fault codes and custom data fields with similar issues. I was able to correlate common HV system issues to specific signals and parameters as well as dive into subsystems like LV distribution, battery and cab AC, and the inverter/motor. I also would find unique edge cases in the vehicle and battery softwares that I would then help to remedy in the models for future software updates. Finally, I worked with the battery remanufacturing team to ensure issues in the field were properly fixed and tested, as well as correlated to specific use cases or vehicles.

Battery Manufacturing Engineer

Los Angeles, California, Us

As a battery manufacturing engineer, my main duties were to oversee the process and equipment for the pack assembly. Although I helped in all stations of the line, I was primarily in charge of the final pack assembly and end-of-line testing and validation. This included drafting the process and work instructions for HIPOT, DCIR discharge, and cycling. I was able to automate the HIPOT and DCIR tests as well as diagnose failures and what their root cause was. I also learned the ins and outs of the battery management system and the vehicle software that controlled the batteries. This expertise allowed me to perform validation tests on three distinct next-generation battery platforms with the battery design team. I also created a process overview of one of these platforms to share with automation integrators. As the only team member with a mechanical engineering background, I was also in charge of fixture and jig design. This allowed me to work on solutions for other stations on the line and create prototypes on our in house 3D printers. It also provided me experience with working with the battery design team extensively on necessary fixtures and processes for newly developed battery packs. I helped lead mechanical discussions during DFM meetings and provide feedback on part tolerance issues seen on the line.

Battery Manufacturing Engineer Intern

Los Angeles, California, Us

While an intern, I jumped head first into learning the process and equipment used on the battery manufacturing line. From there, I was able to find, diagnose, and solve issues including misaligned parts, unwanted adhesive conductivity, and BMS error codes found at end-of-line. I worked hand and hand with the battery design team, testing team, and production team to correct these problems and develop new processes and fixtures to increase safety and efficiency. Also during this time, I was able to help with design changes due to supply chain issues with parts as well as improving the safety of assembling the battery packs.

Teaching Associate

San Luis Obispo, Ca, Us

As a Teaching Associate, I taught a 6 hour/week course on hand drafting and an introduction to SolidWorks. This class focused on how to correctly hand draft orthographic views, isometrics, auxiliary and section views, and descriptive geometry. The students also learned how to make basic parts and assemblies in SolidWorks using a multitude of features and how to create correct ANSI standard drawings. We covered correct dimensioning techniques and the basics of GD&T like datums, flatness, parallelism, perpendicularity, and angularity. I also taught the 3hr/week class that only focused on hand drafting which went more in-depth on hand drafting topics like orthographic views, auxiliary views, hidden lines, and projections.

Instructional Student Assistant

San Luis Obispo, Ca, Us

I was an Instructional Student Assistant for a couple of years and my roles and responsibilities had changed over time. I started as an ISA after completing the hand drafting and CAD courses taught at Cal Poly. I helped teach students how to hand draft which included projections, isometrics, auxiliary and section views, as well as descriptive geometry. I also had worked with the more advanced SolidWorks class and helped students with making parts, assemblies, and drawings with accurate dimensioning and GD&T.In my third and fourth years at Cal Poly, I began to have tutoring sessions for all three of the hand drafting and SolidWorks classes at Cal Poly where students could come in and ask questions. One other tutor and I would lead these sessions and this provided a more challenging environment because there was no professor to help with more complex questions. In my fourth year, I joined the Writing and Learning Center at Cal Poly which was in charge of tutoring all courses offered at the University. At that time, I was listed to tutor in over 30 courses in the Mechanical Engineering and Math catalogs. This gave me the opportunity to freshen up on the fundamentals as well as work through problems in a collaborative way.

On-Site Manager

Carhill Condominiums Hoa

As the on-site manager at my condominium complex, I was in charge of keeping the property clean as well as taking out bulk trash and recycling. I was also in charge of illegal parking at our complex and am the primary contact for any residents at the complex.

Equipment Engineer Intern

San Jose, Ca, Us

As an equipment engineering intern at Maxim, I was able to learn how a large scale engineering company functions and the manufacturing processes used for semiconductors. My main project during the internship was to design and start the manufacturing of a mechanical lift system that could lift a variety of 70-pound robots out of wet etch tools in the fab. The system had to be resistant to the corrosive environment but also clean enough to enter a fab environment. It also had to work with a variety of tool configurations and different robot and sink manufacturers. The purpose of the project was to decrease the risk of injury and I was able to research and model the likelihood of injury of the current lifting procedure. I was able to design a system that would work with all sinks using a set of jigs for different robots and a lift with modular heights and lengths. As an intern working in the wet etch group, I also assisted the equipment engineers in diagnosing and fixing any problems with the tools. Whether this was regularly scheduled maintenance or an unforeseen failure, fixing the tools was always time-critical and resulted in a fast pace work environment. I also helped the various other interns in other groups to help manufacture and complete their projects. I used a routing tool to create various plastic covers and mounts as well as other shop tools to manufacture and assemble the various other projects. Many other interns were electrical engineers so I often helped them with mechanical aspects of their projects as well as learning more about electrical systems.

Scanner

Sun Lakes, Arizona, Us

As a scanner, I was in charge of adding checks and invoices to an online database in order for easier lookup and retrieval as well as remove the need for physical file cabinets. Although this was not a technical position, I learned what it was like to work in a corporate office environment and how to communicate effectively with my coworkers.
