Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) student pursuing Bachelors Science and Arts (BSA) in Physics and Highland Bagpipe (Music) Performance. An enthusiastic emerging talent, Logan brings recognized strengths in critical analysis, problem-solving, practical applications, and unique solutions. Logan’s quest for knowledge reflects his deep love of learning. He is keen on applying his lessons to mainstream problems and on finding community, national, and global solutions. In group settings, Logan is a productive collaborator who regularly contributes to complex projects producing excellent results. He artfully mixes his amiability with matter-of-fact leadership to keep his team on track. He has an interactive and upbeat style and frequently contributes to group and classroom discussions. Attending Carnegie Mellon University was Logan's dream. CMU's advancing physics studies further develop scientific interests cultivated by Dr. Tutun Harsano's high school classes. Through physics, Logan discovered a gateway to connect with the other sciences and understand how the universe behaves.Logan’s interests extend well beyond his physics and science pursuits. He is a talented Scottish Highland Bagpipe student, a ranked solo competitor, and a dedicated member of the Carnegie Mellon University Pipes and Drums Band. At Carnegie Mellon, Logan is fortunate to study under the renowned instructor, Andrew Carlisle.Logan’s extended bagpipe band experience also includes 6+ years with the Greater Richmond Pipes and Drums Band (Richmond, Virginia) where he studied under Chance Bell and Nels Yehnert. His bagpipe career began with the Albemarle Pipes and Drums Band (Charlottesville, Virginia) where he studied with JoAnn Scott. The venerable Ann Watson piqued Logan’s love of bagpipes when they met in West Virginia. Ann’s artful storytelling about Highland Bagpipe lore and her encouragement to learn set Logan on a musical journey that led to his attending Carnegie Mellon University. “Music is a big part of the Celtic heritage – If you learn your heritage, you learn who you are and then your’re able to pass it on to future generations.” –Ann WatsonPassionate about preserving the Highland Bagpipe musical traditions, Logan frequently performs for public events, parades, and memorials. Mirroring Ann Watson's legacy, Logan intends to introduce and encourage future generations on the epic traditions of the Highland Bagpipes. At CMU, Logan pursues his dream of combining his Physics and Highland Bagpipe degrees into a viable career in education and research.
