Carceral State Project- Documenting Criminalization and Confinement teams. The DCC projects center on comparative research questions that investigate how the carceral state operates in multiple dimensions and across different scales; how the social groups and persons most directly impacted have encountered and resisted criminalization and control; how visual culture and material discourses shape policies of carceral and perceptions of criminality; and how the study of violence and trauma requires responsible scholarly practices and community partnerships.As a member of this research team, I am responsible for researching the conditions in the Oakland County Jail in Pontiac, Michigan. Exploring historical and present-day conditions, I also examined the incarcerated population in that jail cope with, survived, and resisted those conditions of confinement.My particular research fits into the project’s broader research into jail and prison conditions across Michigan. The research team I am a part of includes members that are both students at the university and formerly incarcerated persons whom these conditions have impacted. My research is particularly interested in questions related to the relationship with the environment, science, and health; the focus of my inquiry tends to center on conditions such as the quality of water that the incarcerated have to drink, the food that is provided to them, the medical care that is provided to them, and their physical exposure to toxins such as mold. The DCC more generally seeks to document the experience of criminalization and confinement in America from the perspective of those most impacted by it. Our goal is to inform policymakers and journalists, foster community partnerships, and ultimately imagine a more just system of addressing harm, providing needed resources to people, and repairing fractured relationships in our society.

Yale Conservation Scholars – Early Leadership Initiative (YCS- ELI)A summer program for undergraduates from diverse backgrounds historically underrepresented in environmental institutions. I was given the opportunity to explore the relationship between public health and tree equity within urban environments in the city of Providence, Rhode Island.Scholars are trained and work directly with professors, research scientists, and environmental professionals during and after the internship. Program participants also develop networks with each other, program alums, and environmental professionals. Scholars spend each Friday in professional development webinars and sessions with speakers, workshops, and mentors. Working with Groundwork Rhode Island helps make Rhode Island’s urban communities healthier and more resilient places to live by improving the physical environment and creating economic opportunities for residents through job training, employment, and social venture programs. GWRI achieves our mission by leading various urban stewardship programs and projects that train and employ lower-income Rhode Islanders, including those with past conviction records and youth.

Worked for the Detroit Tigers youth baseball and softball camp as a coaching assistant. The Detroit Tigers carefully selects, screens, and then trains their instructors, and I was honored to be one of those coaches. Never underestimate the value of a great coach. The Instructor's mandate is to "teach and to reach." Coaches are personally encouraged to connect with and support the campers. Great teachers can be game-changers in our kids' lives, and great baseball and softball coaches are the same. Every instructor will undergo a thorough background check and be "SafeSport Trained," as Major League Baseball requires.
