I graduated from Stellenbosch University in 2023 with a degree in a field related to cardiometabolic research. During my studies, I worked as a teaching assistant at the Centre for Cardiometabolic Research in Africa (CARMA), where I supported the lecturers and students in various courses and projects. In addition, I held various leadership positions and co-supervised/mentored numerous postgraduate students. I developed strong communication, critical thinking, and goal setting skills, as well as a passion for medical scientific discovery and innovation.In addition to my academic experience, I also worked as a tour guide at Vredenheim Wine and Wildlife, a unique attraction that combines wine tasting and wildlife viewing. I facilitated guided tours of the Big Cat Park, where I educated the visitors about the different species and their conservation status, as well as ensured their safety and satisfaction. I also designed sign boards that provided factual information about each cat, and received an award for being the most neat and punctual employee of the park. I enjoyed this role as it allowed me to share my knowledge and enthusiasm for nature and animals, as well as to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
