I started coding around 12 years old. Now this isn’t as impressive as it sounds, see my parents had this DOS computer (if I remember correctly it was an NEC), the QBasic compiler shipped with the machine and it came with a book. The first program I wrote used a bunch of LINE statements to display a 2-dimensional character and I had no idea what I was doing, but I was typing, and things were happening and that was cool! I got the character to move up, down, left and right - I had so much fun doing that and the time just flew by. I attempted to make the map larger by switching areas when the character moved to the edge of the screen, but things got real complicated, so being a kid with the attention span of a goldfish, I moved on to something else- completely forgetting about the game I had coded.
