A true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination" by Einstein reminds us of the importance of our creative nature in scientific research. I am an Electrochemical engineer pursuing research in the Electrodics and Electro-Catalysis division at Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CECRI). My field of work is building simple yet effective biosensor platforms to sense biochemical compounds using electrochemical techniques like Voltammetry, Amperometry and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). My research aims to sense the most challenging toxicants to help the health industry and food industry with effective diagnoses to promote meticulous and apt treatment. Graduate-school chemistry involving inorganic biochemistry and organic chemistry to study chemical interactions helps me build sensing platforms. The Research and development of sensors using several innovative techniques to modify the surface of the working electrode to build 3rd generation sensors inspire me to go beyond the subject and explore several techniques. The uniqueness of my research is the sensing of neutral, non-ionic and electrochemically inactive analytes using electrochemical techniques at the lowest possible concentration (micromoles, nanomoles per litre). The advantage of electrochemical techniques is their improved accuracy over other methods. Interfacial Science in Electro-Chemistry has inspired me and given me a bird's eye view of the subject. Interface study has its roots deeply embedded in the subject explaining “how monitoring its in-situ characteristics” can help build a better Fuel cell, Battery, Biosensor, or Supercapacitor, I believe every electrochemist is indirectly looking for the answer to “what exactly is happening at the Electroactive surface?” for the betterment or improvement of his application. This being the most fundamental aspect of electrochemistry has always made me ponder over the reactions, visuals, and properties of the metal electrolyte interface while performing electroanalytical studies routinely.
