News & Observer had partnered with the Internet company I was affiliated with in New York. I moved here for personal reasons, was quickly hired to help grow the e-commerce part of the newspapers Internet division We started Triangle.com.and the commercial areas of that. My focus was to build on the relationship that the small business community had with the N&O using display advertising. As e-commerce and the internet became a vital part of the advertising marketing spectrum it was early but inevitable. When the bottom fell out of the Internet the News & Observer let me go and focused on only the part of their Web site that would not take revenue away from their core business. Ad sales. So it was time to look to see how I could make use of my experience with small and medium size business. The particular texture of their business is based on relationships with the customers. That is why I have seen the results of the Greeting Cards for special occasions and consistent contact with customers. Building relationships and staying "Top of Mind"

Point&Shop was a turnkey ecommerce site for medium and small businesses. The marketing strategy was to partner with newspapers and other media's across the country and use their relationships with the advertisiers. We worked with all the major newspapers over 750 papers across the nation to have market places within their Web sites and populate them with the local stores. The product was product driven and the stores had access to run the site themselves. It was brilliant and too early in the Internet game. When I relocated to New Jersey was responsible for all the newspapers in New Jersey and subsequestly moved to North Carolina to play golf all year and worked with the New & Observer.
