Gypsum and ceramic industry are, obviously, quite different and each of them has different thermal power requirements. The solar plant hypothesized to be devoted to the gypsum industry was sized to produce 10MW of thermal energy with 6 hours of storage. This system was designed to use two exchangers to couple the solar plant with the industrial process: one of 5MW for the drying and the other of the same thermal power production for the gypsum’s calcination. On the other hand, for the ceramic industry, a solar trough plant of the same size was used in connection with only one exchanger for heat production.The production capacity of the solar plant, assessed by its detailed sizing was so assessed with the SAM-NREL software, and this was used together with the results of the sizing of the exchangers for calculating the Levelized Cost of Heat (LCOH).
