About Lon Hebert
I Spent 6 years in the Greatest Air Force in the world from June 1971 July 1977 but due to a bad experience with being forced to transfer i Did not want. I got out. applied to man jobs but as soon as they heard I was a Air Force Vietnam Vet I would get the old we will let you know. one day I interviewed for a job the supervisor goes" well if we hire you are you going to shoot the place up" I told that is none of your damn business so take your job and shove it up your ass. my father got me a job working for Halliburton driving bulk materials truck, well after 11 months being out I walked into the navy recruiter's office in Houston with my DD-214 There was this STGSC(SS) Senior Chief Hunter standing outside of his office having a smoke. Well I asked him as I handed him my DD-214 Can I come into the navy. he goes how long have been out I go 11 months. so we went inside he looked into his book on jobs that the air force and navy are comparable he goes well there are a number of jobs for you. so I took a pre asvab scored a 71, then he showed me radioman I go that is it. So the next morning at 0400 I was picked up went to take the real asvab I scored a 74 on the real one I was offered all the CT Jobs but I go no radioman. so I got osvet-other services Veterans and radioman "A" School for 3 years. But I could cancel the last year and reenlist earl. I went to OSVET School for 4 weeks, then started radioman "A" school I was the oldest guy in the class all the rest were teenagers I was made class leader, so I passed my typing on a teletype test, knew how to log messages in reproduce them, run broadcast. I had to learn about messages being out to sea and how that worked was supposed to be there 12 weeks but got out in 5 weeks. so had 3 weeks in in transit barracks finally called my recuiter got me orders to COMSEVENTHFLT Embarked on USS OKLAHOMA CITY CLG-5 .Homeported in Yokosuka Japan. I was on COMSEVENTHFLT STAFF. In 1980 I reenlisted for RM C-7 School and Morse code school at NTC San Diego CA, with follow on orders to USNS PASSUMPSIC-T-AO-107 Homeported at Subic Bay Philippines. when I arrived was sent to Diego Garcia to catch the ship. I found that a friend of mine RM3 Reggie Brown was at Navcomsta Diego Garcia. so called him and CWO3 Broussard got me over there instead of digging ditches for the Seabees. after about a month and a half this guy on Ship Shore Orestes told me that he had The Passumpsic was on the net. so I typed out a wire note and they sent me accounting data so I could transfer. Back to Subic to await the Passumpsic.
