Architecture has taught me to communicate with myself and others, to explore curiously yet pay attention to ordinary details, and to work wholeheartedly yet appreciate companions. My architectural ideas came from various explorations. I sketched drawings and crafted models from cardboard, chipboard, wood, PET, acrylic, aluminum, and welded steel to iterate from personal research. 3D printing also assisted me with realizing digital models and making site buildings in the last two years. Topography, circulation, and geometry exploration inspired my Sculpting The Soil and House of Art. While my other project, Framing The Boundary, highlighted river polynyas and different river edge states in a cold climate, my Residence R&A, a cluster development near Downtown Minneapolis, dived deep into steel and prefabrication study to inspire a new living mode. Besides exploring conceptual values for my projects, I always tried to design a structurally sound building to the best of my understanding and with assistance from professors and peers. Digital modeling, especially BIM, has become an effective tool for my creation process. In my graduate years, I transitioned from AutoCAD and Rhino to Revit for more precise modeling and producing construction documents. Revit's preference for rectilinear informed the geometry of my House of Art, while my Shadow Exhibition challenged the modeling limitation. Sketchup and ArchiCAD are also tools that I'm familiar with. For rendering, I primarily used Twinmotion despite learning Enscape and Vray. My post-production strategies improved with Adobe Suites as my education progressed. I've worked with teams of multiple sizes, and each experience required different ways to achieve efficiency. In residence R&A, I had thrice-weekly meetings with another peer to discuss and make hands-on iterations before finalizing shared concepts and personal tasks in response to feedback from weekly pin-ups. During the House of The Future Competition, one dedicated weekly workshop day simultaneously facilitated group communication and individual responsibilities to minimize impacts on school work. I also have an interest in sustainability. Besides taking a sustainability-related course every semester to build my knowledge, I also explored some performance analysis software and plugins like Climate Studio, Sefaira, and DIALux. However, most of the work with performance analysis software involves evaluating a project and not assisting the design process.
