I counsel broker dealers, investment advisors, clearing agents and other securities firms and professionals as well as securities issuers and their corporate officers and directors, underwriters, investment funds, and some individual and institutional investors, among others, in matters ranging from simple trading disputes to expansive securities fraud claims. In the general business context, I counsel people and companies as to commercial contract, business torts and unfair competition disputes. Unfair competition disputes may include trade secret misappropriation, theft of protectable business information, customer or employee raiding, non-competition agreement enforcement, claims against corporate officers and directors and tortious interference claims against third-parties, among others.

National Commercial Litigation Practice centered on securities and capital markets, intellectual property and business competition mattersIn 1994, I joined the Tampa, Florida office of a large, Chicago-based law firm. I gained access to the firm’s national and international expertise in intellectual property, franchise and distribution and real estate practices from both litigation and transaction perspectives. I similarly supported and later led increasingly complex commercial litigation matters pending in several of the United States and Territories. As revenue and attorney numbers grew, so did the firm’s practice areas and sophistication in those areas, which included national and international financial services, capital markets, IP and business competition.

I began trying commercial cases in 1989. I trained under exceptionally-skilled litigation and transactional attorneys, most of whom had worked with significant law firms from across the U.S. From the transactional perspective, I gained detailed knowledge of and experience in a broad range of substantive legal areas including securities, corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions.
