KEPLAIR, (Knowledge-based Environment for Personalized Learning using an Artificial Intelligence Recommender) is an online marketplace for free & low cost learning activities that delight the learner while adding knowledge & skills needs to achieve self-chosen goals.

Tentative Project Name: KEPLAIR: (Knowledge-based Environment for Personalized Learning using an Artificial Intelligence Recommender). This is my lifelong dream of creating a serious human-machine collaboration in the domain of human learning and education. We are beginning by developing an ontology with 3 main classes: Learning Goals/Aspirations/Targets, Learner Profiles and Preferences, Learning Objects/Materials/Resources/Environments. We welcome contact with potential partners, contributors and interested individuals. KEPLAIR will function within an online platform called LearningQuest. KEPLAIR is a Knowledge-based Environment for Personalized Learning using an Artificial Intelligence Recommender. In other words, KEPLAIR serves as an online guide and coach to help you define your learning goals and achieve them. It creates a curated list of suggested learning materials filtered by your previous knowledge, skills, and personal preferences. KEPLAIR is in early development. This project of LO*OP Center, Inc. contributes to the global discourse about best economic practices for continuing human prosperity. It is a node in the network of thinkers and actors who realize that market capitalism, as practiced in the United States, is not sustainable in what is being called the Long Now or the Anthropocene Era. We study the anthropological, economic, social, ecological and moral literature of the past and combine our findings with contemporary flow and systems science to devise new social patterns to implement in both the local and world future.

Retirement is often busier than employment or contracting. My days are full with creative and volunteer work punctuated by a few contracts.

My role is to promote the civic engagement and community participation of everyone using the Straus family as shining examples.The Straus Historical Society fosters educational activities with respect to the settlement of Jews in the United States and, in particular, the family of Lazarus and Sara Straus, their ancestors and their descendants. The focus of the Society's activities on the Straus Family is based on the family's involvement in government, commerce, and philanthropy.The history of the Straus family is part of world history. It is written for the present. It provokes discussion, imagination and creation. It ties the present with the past and draws pathways to the future.

This project documents the intersection of computing and education from the 1960s to the 1990s. It comprises an archive of documents, videos, software, and hardware. The goal is to digitize, curate, and publish the contents of this archive as a Virtual Museum.

LO*OP Center, Inc. (LO*OP stands for Learning Options * Open Portal) has been pioneering educational visions since its inception in 1972. LO*OP opened the second public access computer center located outside a museum in 1975. Its nonprofit corporate charter enables the company to engage in any form of education, publication or research. So far, it has focused on exploring the use of computing for learning and on promoting intercultural communication. Currently LO*OP has two projects: 1) Developing a virtual museum on the History of Computing in Learning and Education and 2) Explicating "Open Educative Systems", a new vision for institutions that facilitate learning in the 21st century.

SRCInternational Inc. is the nonprofit organization behind the disaster preparedness, citizen response and recovery platform: www.recovers.org. I support two local instances of this interactive web site, www.sonomacounty.recovers.org and www.campfirebutte.recovers.org. In addition, I am working with the parent organization to raise funds for a rebuild of the platform that incorporates the lessons learn from over 400 local communities and 9 years of advancement in social media. This required consulting with the design engineers (since the machine was not yet completed) and trying to anticipate how the machine they were building would operate. In many cases, no decision had been made on the user interface so my manuals served as the interface specification!
