Made significant contributions to the design and implementation of the Maginatics cloud storage system, which provides a consistent file system interface for distributed object stores, such as AWS S3 and OpenStack Swift. Implemented a large number of features and optimizations in the file system metadata server, including among others, distributed locking and file map compression. Designed and carried out performance experiments and analysis, and implemented corresponding optimizations in the server. Diagnosed and fixed complex software defects.

Technical lead in the Data-Intensive Scalable Computing (DISC) and Cloud research projects in the Parallel Data Laboratory. Designed, built, deployed and managed a cluster for data-intensive computing using Linux and the Apache stack for large-scale data processing (Hadoop/HDFS/HBase/Accumulo). Liaison for the CMU/Yahoo! collaboration on data-intensive computing.

Performed research to overcome I/O bottlenecks encountered when storing the output produced by large parallel computer numerical simulations. I wrote the parallel I/O implementation used in Carnegie Mellon's earthquake simulator (http://quake.ce.cmu.edu).I developed techniques to compress, index and query large wavefield datasets in their compressed representation, that is, in the compressed domain. This approach turned an I/O intensive problem into a massively parallel computational workload, which is well suited for parallel many-core architectures.

Built a software research prototype for pico-networks to share and bundle the internet connection of multiple devices.
