About Lora Agbaso

With over a decade of experience teaching English as a Foreign Language, I moved into the ESOL sector and dedicated my career to empowering adult learners who have found their new home in the UK.My lived experience of forced migration and trauma gives me a dual perspective on teaching adult ESOL students and shapes my teaching approach. Specialising in trauma-informed language teaching, I focus on understanding the impact of trauma on second language learning, offering tailored support to learners who experienced traumatic events.My research interest is in the intersection of forced migration, trauma and second language acquisition, focusing on how past experiences impact language learning and the ways to improve it. My work aims to develop effective strategies that help learners overcome these challenges and thrive in their new environments. I’m passionate about sharing these insights with the broader educational community to improve support for trauma-affected students worldwide.My mission is to create a safe, nurturing environment where students can rebuild their lives, one word at a time.

The findings are compiled in a comprehensive report, which also includes a personal narrative from the researcher with lived experience of seeking asylum in the UK.
