Prior to starting a degree the chance of employment was taken, working for a agricultural consultancy business, dealing particularly with cross compliance issues. Daily tasks includes dealing with clients whilst completing their cross compliance folder - which entailed detailed information on movement, soil sampling, waste removal and disposal, cropping, livestock and additional on farm enterprises. The information generated was then used on farm inspections by the government agencies, and can therefore be classed as highly important information. Responsibilities also included assisting on farm inspections ensuring that clients were well informed on the inspection process as well as offer some guidance if further problems were to occur. This ensured a good understanding of regulations that are today highly important to UK farmers and land owners and allowed industry knowledge to be gained prior to entering higher education.
