I ran for U.S. Senate in 2020 to represent Colorado in order to put people first. I am committed to fighting for economic opportunities that level the playing field for all of us. I believe in a comprehensive single-payer health care system, a Green New Deal that supports a transition for the fossil fuel workforce to enter new industries, Immigration reform that protects the dignity of all people, and an accessible higher education system that makes a college degree and vocational training available for everyone.

Executive DirectorColorado Organization For Latina Opportunity And Reproductive Rights Apr 2010 - Jul 2013Business: provide training and educational workshops for adults and youth regarding advocacy, comprehensive sexuality education, healthcare access; policy advocacy, membership of over 3000 Latinos in Colorado, $605k budget and 7 staff. Responsible for P&L, direction of education program, policy program, communications program, and supervision and professional development of deputy director and communications director, board development and management. Financial turn around and growth: When I began my position, the organization had undergone a traumatic leadership transition and had lost the confidence of many funders which would have left COLOR in its final year of foundation funding from current funders. Through effective communication, effective and quick changes in program I was able to rebuild the confidence of current funders and put COLOR on the radar of new funders. Perception and culture change internal and external: Effectively changed the negative perceptive of the organization as an ineffective women of color organization to being one of the most effective policy advocacy organizations in the state through strategic opportunities, relationship building, fundraising, communications and community organizing. I facilitated the update of our internal operating principles that serve as a model of a reproductive justice organization. This supported the increased in the professionalism of the organization and the effectiveness of the organization. Unfortunately I was also forced to make hard disciplinary decisions that bettered the over all moral of the organization. First Organization to prioritize communications as an agent of change in reproductive justice: Color was the first reproductive organization in the country to create and fill a full time communications position. This enabled COLOR to be front and center in the media and respond to media accordingly. This allowed for COLOR to establish its authority in reproductive justice in the country.

Under my leadership, the Women’s Lobby became an organization that met the needs of not only older wealthy Caucasian women; it also addressed the needs of the gen X and gen Y women.
